On Easter Saturday, the Murray Bridge Rifle Club held its annual Open Championship at the Deed Rifle Range, Monarto.

Fifty shooters from around the State, from as far away as Woomera, Yunta, Bordertown and the Riverland competed.

After early morning fog cleared a left breeze blew. This changed in the afternoon to a right breeze but it depended where you were drawn because as it changed the breeze became non-existent and made scoring easier.

The match was conducted over 500m, 600m and 800m with the latter being a 15 shot match.
At the end of the day the Kuchel Challenge was contested in honour of past member Colin Kuchel.

This is a shoot-off for the top four shooters in F Class Standard, F Class Open and F/TR.

Christmas Shoot Made Interesting

Members of the Murray Bridge Rifle Club gathered for a Christmas shoot on Saturday the 17th at 500m at Monarto.
As always at this time of year the person in charge comes up with something interesting and novel to test the shooters.
This year Vice-Captain, Robert Paech, chose a 15-shot match. The novel experience for the shooters was that the two sighters would be marked to show where they were positioned on the target but could not be converted to the score. From then on each shooter had to shoot “blind” for 15 shots - which is aiming at the target but not seeing where the shots are until they had finished.  The target then reappeared with coloured spots to show each shot. The scores of these were all added up to decide the winner.
Some shooters even had an added competition amongst themselves to guess what their score would actually be - and surprisingly some had a very good guess.
Top off-rifle for the full-bore shooters was David McDonald with 69.1
Top off-rifle for the F Class shooters was Adrian Conlon with 84.6.

Warm and sunny conditions greeted the Murray Bridge Rifle Club members on Saturday the 3rd of December as they contested the 13th stage of the Club Championship over 600m at Monarto.

In the past month members had been travelling around the State to compete so it was pleasing to be back on their home range. Unfortunately the scores did not reflect this as the warm weather and mirage caused different movement in the wind and some unexplained shots.
