500m Championship Report

On Saturday 17th of February, the Murray Bridge Rifle Club contested the fifteenth Stage of the Club Championship over 500m at Monarto.

It was a fine day and the wind was light, flicking from left to right. Shooters needed to watch the mirage closely to work it out as a couple of times it boiled. Mid afternoon the wind swung around to be consistently right which made it cool as the breeze came off the lake. Unfortunately this made it quite a bit stronger and in some cases it was harder to read.

Top off-rifle and winner in A Grade was Robert Paech with 98.10, including starting with a possible - 50.5.

The only other shooter to score a possible was Andrew Heard who also started off well with 50.4 and was only just behind Paech with 98.7.

Christmas Shoot Brings a Challenge

The Murray Bridge Rifle Club finished the year with a celebration of shooting and a family Christmas at Monarto over 500m.
This was a fun shoot with shooters testing their skills with no wind flags to help them in shot adjustments.
A gentle wind blew from the left and other times right and some shooters were even lucky enough to be able to get some shots away on zero wind.
The match was a 15 shot event with the F Class method of scoring used, where each shot counts as six. Extra skill was needed as each shooter had to also judge their own handicap to reach the limit. Each competitor was able to win a donated prize.
Shooting started early in the morning and at the end of competition members had a Christmas lunch of chicken, ham and salads. Throughout this several fun competitions were held with prizes being given. The day finished with pudding and ice cream before the members wished each other well for several weeks break.

Conditions Prove Testing For Pairs Match

2017Pairs

On Saturday the 21st October, the  Murray Bridge Rifle Club contested the annual Championship Pairs Match at Monarto over 600m.
This is a fun shoot where members team up with each other and try to outdo their opponents with their ability to read the wind and score well. Each team needs to judge how much handicap they need to win to reach the limit.
A strong wind blew from the right and though it seemed steady it continually did unusual things that caused all shooters to shake their heads in bewilderment.
Due to the combinations of shooters the F Class method of scoring is used where each shot counts as six.
This year no team reached the limit but scores were close and it was left to the results to tell who the winners were.
The winners were Jasamine Irvine and Ian Elston who were teamed up again this year and did better after some said having a practice last year. They must certainly have learnt something with both shooting consistently.
Second place went to Jade Conlon and Gordon Harrison, with Adrian Conlon and Terry Brown coming in third.
Top off-rifle in full-bore was David McDonald with 100. The top off-rifle in F Class was Jade Conlon and Ian Elston both with 112.
The captain, Jim Caspers presented the winners with their trophies and lots of bad luck stories were told about the day.
Scores: J. Irvine 46, 48, 94 and I. Elston 57, 55, 112, 206, 37, 234; J. Conlon 57, 55, 112 and G. Harrison 45, 48, 93, 205, 28, 233; A. Conlon 54, 55, 109 and T. Brown 49, 52, 101, 210, 22, 232; J. Caspers 53, 46, 99 and W. Halliday 51, 52, 103, 202, 24, 226; D. Irvine 44, 39, 83 and D. McDonald 50, 50, 100, 183, 40, 223; J. Traeger 44, 47, 91 and F. Marshall 48, 53, 101, 192, 30, 222; G. Traeger 45, 51, 96 and P. Casley 50, 48, 98, 194, 26, 220.

Murray Bridge Loses Excell Shield Against Kapunda

By 5.56

Kap

On Saturday 16th of September, the Murray Bridge Rifle Club hosted the Kapunda Rifle Club at Monarto for the annual Excell Shield.

The weather was fine with a light breeze that blew mostly from the right but occasionally turned to the left. The mirage made it difficult to pick the changes. The coaches found at times there were some settled patches and the shooters managed some good scores.
The match was shot at 600 metres after both Clubs enjoyed a BBQ luncheon.

For many this was a renewal of friendly banter that began last week when Kapunda hosted their annual Open Championship. Several Murray Bridge shooters did well - having Range and Badge wins along the way.

Due to the number of shooters in different disciplines the scores were averaged.
In target rifle Murray Bridge averaged 92.6 to Kapunda 90.0.

The top scorer for Murray Bridge was the Vice-Captain, Robert Paech with an excellent 98.8.

The top scorer for Kapunda was John Hoerisch with 95.7.

Kapunda had a win in the F Class section with an average of 108.4 to Murray Bridge with 103.2.

Top scorer for Kapunda was 10-year old Jade Kearsley with 114.8 including an outstanding 59.7 in her second round.

The top scorer for Murray Bridge was Peter Casley with 109.6, who also shot well in his second round with 58.4.

Tight Shooting for the Cranwell 15

Members of the Murray Bridge Rifle Club completed the season with the annual Cranwell 15 shoot over 500m at Monarto.on the 10th June.
The match was shot very early in the morning in ideal conditions.
A light fog had lifted before the start and unusually for the Monarto range the flags were hanging limply against the poles.
All shooters scored highly but the early shooters got the best of the conditions. As the morning progressed the breeze wafted in from the left and gradually gathered in strength.
Top of rifle was Robert Paech with 75.10. In the last few weks he has not missed the bullseye once in over 50 shots.
Top off rifle for F Class was Leif Hickerson with 90.8. Hickerson is also going through a brilliant patch at the moment and his shooting is going from strength to strength. The only other possible was by John Shobbrook in F Class Open with 90.5.
This shoot is a Handicap event and once the scores were tallied the winners were announced.
Gordon Harrison with 74.9 was the winner in target rifle just pipping Paech.
Steve Wuttke was the F Class winner with a superb 89.10.
Both members were very pleased with their wins.
