Target Rifle

Target Rifle is the traditional rifle shooting discipline, utilising open peep sights.

Originally military 303 rifles were used, but in 1968 dedicated single shot 308 calibre target rifles were introduced, and there is no longer any connection with the military. These must use 155 gn projectiles.

.223 calibre rifles are now also permitted, and these must use 80 gn projectiles.

These are other restrictions on rifle weight, trigger weight, and many other aspects.

Target rifle is a test of the basic shooting skills - a steady hold, good sighting, and smooth trigger release.
